Prof. Chaudhuri did his Ph.D. from IIT-Kharagpur and earlier he did his B.Sc. from Calcutta University & M.Sc. from Kalyani University.

Prof. Chaudhuri has been the Vice-Chancellor of Tezpur University since May’07. Prior to that, he served at IIT-Guwahati as Head of Chemistry Department, Dean-Students Affairs & Dean-R&D. Earlier, he worked as a faculty in Chemistry Department, North Eastern Hill University, Shillong, for 20 years.

His area of specialization is Inorganic Chemistry, Catalysis and Green Chemistry. He has developed many catalysts & processes which can be called as “Green” including catalyst for converting mercaptans & DMS in to DMSO, process for manufacturing tribromides as substitutes for highly toxic chemical bromine, process for recovery of bromine from Sea Water involving bio-mimicking catalysts, etc.

Prof. Chaudhuri has 135 publications and has 5 patents to his credit. Two of his technologies have already been commercialized by the industry. Prof. Chaudhuri is also a member on the Board of Directors of companies like SMS Pharmaceuticals & Oxygenica. He has won many prestigious awards including Shati Swarup Bhatnagar Award, CHEMITO Award, Indian Chemical Society’s S.S. Sandhu Award, etc. He is a fellow of Indian Academy of Sciences and Indian National Science Academy.
