John is the recipient of the 2014 Perkin Medal, widely acknowledged as the highest honor in American Industrial Chemistry. He received his BS in Chemistry from UMASS Boston, and his PhD in Chemistry from Princeton University. After working at the Polaroid Corporation for nearly a decade, he then served as tenured full professor at UMASS Boston and Lowell (Chemistry and Plastics Engineering).
In 2007 he founded the Warner Babcock Institute for Green Chemistry, LLC (A research organization developing green chemistry technologies) where he serves as President and Chief Technology Officer, and Beyond Benign (a non-profit dedicated to sustainability and green chemistry education). He is one of the founders of the field of Green Chemistry, co-authoring the defining text Green Chemistry: Theory and Practice with Paul Anastas. He has published over 250 patents, papers and books. His recent work in the fields of pharmaceuticals, personal care products, solar energy and construction and paving materials are examples of how green chemistry principles can be immediately incorporated into commercially relevant applications.
Warner received The 2004 Presidential Award for Excellence in Science Mentoring (considered one of the highest awards for US science education), the American Institute of Chemistry’s Northeast Division’s Distinguished Chemist of the Year for 2002 and the Council of Science Society President’s 2008 Leadership award. Warner was named by ICIS as one of the most influential people impacting the global chemical industries. In 2011 he was elected a Fellow of the American Chemical Society and named one of “25 Visionaries Changing the World” by Utne Reader.
R Gopalakrishnan studied physics at St Xavier’s Kolkata, engineering at IIT Kharagpur and attended the Advanced Management Program at Harvard Business School. He has been a corporate leader for 48 years: 31 years in Unilever and 17 years in Tata. He served in Jeddah as Chairman of Unilever Arabia, as Managing Director of Brooke Bond Lipton and Vice Chairman of Hindustan Lever, and as Executive Director of Tata Sons. Apart from serving as a Director on the TATA parent board, Tata Sons, and he also served several Tata group companies. Currently he serves as an independent director of listed companies, Akzo Nobel India, Castrol India, and Hemas Holdings PLC, Sri Lanka.

David Constable, Ph.D., has been the Director of the ACS-Green Chemistry Institute (ACS GCI) in Washington, D.C., since January 2013. The mission of ACS GCI is to catalyze and enable the implementation of green chemistry and engineering throughout the global chemistry enterprise.
From September 2011 to January 2013, Constable was owner and principal at Sustainability Foresights, LLC, a consulting firm that assisted companies with sustainability; sustainable and green chemistry; energy; and environment, safety, and health (ESH) programs. Prior to that, he was with Lockheed Martin as the corporate vice president of energy, environment, safety, and health.
Before joining Lockheed Martin, Constable was the director of operational sustainability in the Corporate ESH Department at GlaxoSmithKline. In that global role, he led GlaxoSmithKline’s development of sustainability-based programs, systems, tools and methodologies. Prior to joining SmithKline Beecham, Constable served as Group Leader of the SHEA Analytical Services group at ICI Americas.

C. Oliver Kappe is Professor of Chemistry at the University of Graz (Austria) and Key Researcher at the Research Center Pharmaceutical Engineering GmbH (RCPE). He received his diploma (1989) and his doctoral (1992) degrees in organic chemistry from the University of Graz where he worked with Gert Kollenz on cycloaddition and rearrangement reactions of acylketenes. After periods of postdoctoral research work on reactive intermediates and matrix isolation spectroscopy with Curt Wentrup at the University of Queensland in Brisbane, Australia (1993-1994) and on synthetic methodology/alkaloid synthesis with Albert Padwa at Emory University in Atlanta, USA (1994-1996), he moved back to the University of Graz in 1996 to start his independent academic career.
He has spent time as visiting scientist/professor at e.g. the Scripps Research Institute (La Jolla, USA, K. Barry Sharpless, 2003), the Toyko Institute of Technology (Toyko, Japan, T. Takahashi, 2008), the Sanford-Burnham Institute for Medical Research (Orlando, USA, 2010) and the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, 2013-2015).
Professor Kappe has an extensive general experience and a 25 year track record in synthetic and physical organic chemistry, process intensification using batch microwave technology and flow chemistry/microreaction technology, communicated in ~380 scientific publications (Research ID, WoS h-Index 69). For the past decade the focus of his research has been directed towards flow chemistry/microreaction technology, encompassing a wide variety of synthetic transformations and experimental techniques.

Rafael Cayuela, is the Corporate Chief Economist at The Dow Chemical Company and in this position he is a member of the Dow global corporate strategy team. In this role he helps to translate the various macro-economic and industry trends into Dow corporate strategy, supporting Dow long term strategy, while working closely with key internal and external stakeholders; especially regulators, governments and international organizations.
In his capacity Rafael actively engages with global chemical associations, like the European Chemical Association (CEFIC) or the American Chemical Council (ACC), as well as with international organizations like the International Monetary Fund (IMF), the World Bank, the G20, OECD, European Commission, IEA and others. Cayuela is an economist by education and has more than fifteen years of experience within the chemical industry across different business and functions.
Cayuela started his career for Dow Chemical in Madrid, Spain, while moving early in his career into Dow global headquarters in Midland, Michigan. Currently is based at Dow European headquarters in Horgen, Switzerland since 2007. He holds a Master degree in European Economics from the College of Europe, Bruges, Belgium and an Executive MBA from the University of Chicago USA. Cayuela is also the author of the book "The Future of the Chemical Industry by 2050", published by Wiley in May 2013 and he is active international speaker about the Chemical Industry, Bioeconomy, Sustainability, and Climate Change as a major business opportunity and the long term outlook of the Industry.
Srini Srinivasan has over 30 years of experience in operational leadership and global leadership roles in innovative medicines, branded generics and vaccines businesses at Pfizer, Novartis, GSK and Astra. Srini held roles as Head Asia Pacific with full P&L responsibilities and as Country President for India, Singapore, Malaysia and Philippines. He led global cross functional teams in multiple therapy areas - Cardiovascular, Immunology, Oncology, Infectious Diseases, Neuroscience and Respiratory through all stages of new product development and commercialization. Srini lived and worked in several countries across Europe, USA and Asia and is currently based at Chennai, India

Pascal Metivier is Solvay group Science & Technology director, based in Brussels (Belgium).< br>
Pascal Metivier did all his career within R&D, where he held various positions.
He entered Rhone-Poulenc in 1987 in Lyon (France) as research scientist working for the pharmaceutical division and then in 1989 working for the agro division. In 1992 he joined the Organic division as group leader where he first work on development of new fragrant molecules, before moving to the industrial side working on process improvement for major industrial units.
In 1996 he joined Rhodia and was appointed head of the catalysis and process department of Rhodia focusing mainly on development and improvement of major industrial processes of Rhodia such as the polyamide intermediates.
In 2001 he was appointed global R&D director of the new Phosphorus and Performance Derivative business unit and moved to London. He returned to France in 2004 where he was appointed global R&D director for Novecare Business unit.
IN 2007 he was appointed as R&I director for Asia-Pacific zone. During the 9 years he spend in Asia he lead the development of R&D in the zone including construction of new research centers in China (Shanghai), Korea (Seoul) & India (Vadodara).
Pascal Metivier studied at “Ecole Europeenne des Industries Chimiques” in Strasbourg (FRANCE), and got his PhD from University Louis Pasteur in Strasbourg. He also spend 18 month as visiting scientist in Purdue University (Indiana , USA)
Pascal Metivier has been named professor “honoris causa” of Zhengzhou university (Henan, China) in 2009, and is also guest professor since 2013 at East China University of Science and Technology in Shanghai.
Dr. Ingrid Mergelsberg received her PhD degree in organic chemistry from the University in Freiburg, Germany. After two postdoctoral trainings at the University of Rochester, NY and Hoffman LaRoche, Basel, Switzerland she started her industrial career at Parke Davis in Freiburg, Germany and then worked for Schering-Plough first in Switzerland and then in New Jersey, USA and later for Merck, New Jersey after the merger.
During her more than 30 years in Chemical Development she has held a progression of roles of increasing responsibilities serving for the last seven years as Director in Process Chemistry. She is leading the cross functional /cross divisional Green and Sustainable Science team at Merck. A former co-Chair of the American Chemical Society Green Chemistry Institute Pharmaceutical Roundtable, Dr. Mergelsberg has been very active in green chemistry initiatives both Merck internally as well as externally. Dr. Mergelsberg also leads the Green Chemistry Working Group of the International Consortium for Innovation and Quality in Pharmaceutical Development (IQ).
Jeffrey Whitford joined Sigma-Aldrich in 2005 and since that time has served in a variety of positions including the company’s first-ever head of Global Citizenship. After the acquisition of Sigma-Aldrich by Merck KGaA, Darmstadt, Germany in 2015 he was named Head of Corporate Responsibility for the Life Science business and recently the head of Branding. In his latest role, Whitford is responsible for developing and implementing strategic programs designed to enhance Merck’s position as a global leader in green chemistry, product recycling, environmental sustainability and social responsibility.
He works to integrate sustainable development concepts into the strategic plans for the business. He also directs the company’s largest Corporate Responsibility initiative, SPARK, where employees in more than 36 countries participate in charitable events designed to benefit their local communities.

Nitesh Mehta holds a master's degree in chemical engineering from Indian Institute of Technology, IIT-Bombay. He received his bachelor's degree in chemical engineering from University of Pune.

Dr. Jeff Eaves is the General Manager for Circa Sustainable Chemicals Ltd. Jeff has a PhD in chemistry and worked for an international chemical company for eleven years in both technical and commercial roles before completing an MBA and becoming a specialist in commercial due diligence for mergers and acquisitions working for both KPMG and Deloitte. Jeff has worked in early stage venture capital with IP Group in the UK and was CEO of Chamelic Ltd, a polymer based start up from the University of Leeds. Prior to joining Circa, Jeff worked with the Green Chemistry Centre of Excellence at the University of York.

Anil Kumar is currently a Professor at IIT Bombay, in the Department of Chemistry, Center for excellence in Nanoelectronics, National Center for Photovoltaic Research and Education and National Center for Excellence in Technologies for Internal Security. His group's research interest are in the area of continuous flow processes and printable optoelectronic devices based on conjugated polymers. In this direction, the main focus is on the development of handheld explosive sensors, electrochromic devices, thin film optoelectronic devices and transparent conductor etc. They have developed a state of the art continuous flow process lab and also conduct regular training programs and workshops in Continuous Flow Process to train the next generation of human resources in this important emerging technology. His group also has developed many technologies including transfer of technology in the domain of handheld explosive sensors and continuous flow processes. For his contribution in this field, he has been awarded with the 2017 NASI-RIL Platinum Jubilee National Award for application-oriented innovations.
Apart from research, his other hobbies are teaching, sports, technical financial analysis, magic and music. Sandip Darji is a chemical engineer and working in Pharmaceutical Industry since 2001. Dr. Bettina Rechenberg works as head of division “Sustainable Production and Products, Waste management” at the German Environment Agency (Umweltbundesamt). She studied biology and has worked at the Umweltbundesamt since 1992 gaining experiences in chemical safety and water protection. From 2011 to 2015 she headed the department “Sustainable production, resource conservation, material cycles”. Julien Hitce, graduated in France from “Chimie Paris” in 2004, with a Master's degree in Chemical Science, focused on Organic Synthesis and Homogenous Catalysis after working in J.-P. Genet’s lab. He joined the Institut de Chimie des Substances Naturelles (France) for his PhD (2004-2007) under the supervision of Prof. O. R. Kumaresan is currently the Head of Industrial and Consumer Specialties business for Region South Asia since May 2014. He steered the recent acquisition of Vivimed Labs Ltd’s personal care portfolio by Clariant and led the integration of the business, research laboratories and manufacturing assets. He also manages the global sales of the acquired business.
He joined Clariant in February 2005 and has held various leadership positions within the company. In 2011 he took charge as Head of the Leather business for India, before its divestment by Clariant.

Dr. Michael Puls is Vice President Business Development at evoxx technologies GmbH, a German Biotech Company specialized in the development of enzymes and biocatalytic processes for fine chemicals, API-intermediates and carbohydrates. Dr. Puls obtained his PhD in enzyme technology in 2007 from University of Duesseldorf / Juelich Research Center after studying Applied Science in Freiberg (Germany) and Chicago (USA). Dr. Puls has more than 10
years of experience in the chemical and pharmaceutical industry and a proven track record in the development the commercialization of enzymatic processes.

Dr. Rajappa Vaidyanathan obtained his Bachelor’s degree from Loyola College, Madras, and his Master’s from the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras. He completed his Ph.D. in 1998 from the University of California, Irvine working in the laboratories of Prof. Scott Rychnovsky. After a post-doctoral appointment at Eli Lilly and Company, he joined the Chemical Process R&D group of Pharmacia Corporation, Kalamazoo, MI, and subsequently Pfizer in Groton, CT. During this period, he led several inter-disciplinary teams in the discovery and development of practical, environmentally responsible processes for New Chemical Entities, three of which were commercialized as approved drugs. He is currently Group Director and Head of Chemical, Synthetic and Analytical Development at Bristol-Myers Squibb in Bangalore, India.
He has won numerous awards, most notably the ACS “Heroes of Chemistry” Award (2015). Since 2012, he has been co-chairing the biennial symposium series Process Chemistry: The Role of Organic Synthesis in Early Clinical Drug Development at the ACS National Meetings.
Dr Palekar is chemical engineer with Ph. D. (Tech.) from Institute of Chemical Technology- ICT, (formerly known as UDCT), Mumbai. He worked for over 2 years in Petrochemical Lab, University of Gent, Belgium as Post-doctoral Fellow. On return to India, he worked at UDCT for a year. He then joined Hindustan Lever Ltd. (Unilever India) research center in Mumbai. He has worked for 25+ years in Corporate world with Indian companies (Privi Organics; Polychem and Atul); and MNCs (Hindustan Lever Ltd. & Rhodia India).
He was Regional Business Director- Asia Pacific & Middle East and Director in Rhodia India (1996 to 2007); and President- Pharma Intermediates; Atul Ltd. and Managing Director, Atul Bioscience Ltd. (May 2007 to May 2014).
Dr Palekar has managed Flavour & Fragrance ingredients, and Pharma intermediates businesses; and has experience in marketing intermediates for Agro, Dyes, Petrochemical, Polymer Emulsion & Adhesive industries. His operational experience includes Process Development & Scale-ups; Production & Factory Management including F&F plants in China; Techno-commercial marketing; P&L responsibility; CRAM of patented specialty chemicals with Japanese & European companies; Due diligence of companies for cquisitions within & outside India. In last decade he is working on Process Intensification to improve productivity & reduce waste; and on new technologies viz. cavitation, chromatographic separation & novel reactor design.
Since June 2014, he is working with STEP Pvt. Ltd. as Head- Strategy & Technology. STEP works in areas of Sustainable Development, Water/ Waste management & treatment, Sewage treatment, and infrastructure projects. STEP is also associated with 4 Japanese companies, including Summit Agro International (part of Sumitomo Corp), for contract manufacturing of specialty chemicals/ intermediates for pharma, agro, polymer, specialty papers & cosmetics applications. STEP is working on possibility to commercialise a novel reactor for use in effluent treatment, chemical reactions and gas absorption.
Dr Palekar is also Business Advisor to two Indian chemical companies for development of specialty chemicals & global marketing; and is associated with the Equity Research team of IIFL, Mumbai to advise their clients (MFs, Pes and Investment Banking companies). He has advised 3 Private Equity companies and identified chemical companies in India (publicly listed and privately held) for possible investment.

Dr. Singh is the Managing Director at thinkstep Sustainability Solutions Pvt Ltd, a subsidiary of thinkstep AG, Germany. He comes with more than 25 years of experience in the areas of Environment Management, Life Cycle Assessment, Corporate Sustainability Management & Reporting, Policy, Strategy and Roadmap Formulation, Carbon Foot-printing and leadership training on sustainability
Before staring the Indian subsidiary of thinkstep, Dr. Singh was part of SAIL, the largest steel company in India for 18 years.
In the product sustainability area, he has contributed to more than 150 Life Cycle Assessment studies including Steel, Aluminum, Glass, Energy, Textile, Agriculture, Packaging, Automobile, Chemicals, Buildings, FMCG sectors. He has also published more than 10 articles in international journals
Dr. Singh is a Civil Engineer, a post graduate Environmental Engineer from IIT Kharagpur and a doctorate in Sustainability Management from IIT Mumbai.
Following a Masters in Physics with an MBA, K.K. Bhagchandani has worked in the life sciences industry for 24 years. Having started his career in India working for pharmaceutical industry leaders Ranbaxy and Pfizer, he made a change in his career path with a move to software and IT. Since 2001 he has been involved in the Asian business world working for global IT-Software companies that provide enabling technologies for pharmaceutical and chemical R&D.
In 2003 he joined ACD/Labs (a leader in software for Structure Characterization, predictive ADME-Tox, PhysChem, and nomenclature software; a company providing solutions for impurity profiling, natural products characterization and chemical + analytical knowledge management). At ACD/Labs he is spearheading the Asian Business Unit, since he started the Asian operations for them. He is recognized for his involvement in the API-Research industry and Natural Products initiatives across Asia.
Recipient of ‘Glory of India’ award, ‘International Achiever’ award and ‘Bharat Udyog Ratan’ award; he has been a regular presenter at international scientific conferences and meetings, introducing science that will help increase efficiency and productivity in R&D.
I am an M Pharm by education from Bangalore University . Started my career at Cipla way back in 1989 with a short stint in Quality Control . Later moved to Process R&D & grew to become Regional API R&D Head with a team strength of about 50 scientists . Currently I am a Senior Director API R&D . I have Successfully developed & implemented more than 70 APIs across the API locations of Cipla. I am Specialized in Onco APIs & have about 25 granted US patents .
